The Winter Festival of Around The Coyote, to be held Thursday, Feb. 8,

ARTS ACADEMY RAISES FUNDS
Chicagoans can get a preview of The Chicago Academy for the Arts’
award-winning performers before the students take their show on the road to
D.C.'s John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. On Monday, Feb. 12,

Kennedy Center program to help raise funds to underwrite the trip. The

The Park

LIBRARY ROUND UP
The Chicago Public Library Harold Washington Center, 400 S. State St., now

SUMMER INTERNS SOUGHT

De La Salle Institute announced that student David Perez, a member of the
Chicago Children's Choir, recently participated in a performance of the
nationally televised program From the Top: Live from Carnegie Hall - A
Showcase of the Nation's Top Young Classical Musicians, which will be on PBS
in April. The taping of the episode with the Chicago Children's Choir took
place in front of a live audience at Carnegie Hall, New York.

Junior Karli Breyer and sophomore Jessica Maes were chosen to represent
Queen of Peace at the Rotary Youth Leadership Activity recently. The
students participated in the Outdoor Wisconsin Leadership Synergies. During

NEW BOOKS
A new postcard book about Chicago hotels operating between the Great Chicago
Fire of 1871 and World War I, considered to be the coming-of-age period for
hotels in the city's history, has just been published by two Roosevelt
University professors. The book, Early Chicago Hotels, by Brooke Portmann,
an assistant professor of humanities, and William Host, an assistant
professor of hospitality management, features postcards and stories about
more than 90 hotels operating during the period.
In his new
book, The Power and Paradox of Physical Attractiveness, Gordon L. Patzer,
dean of Roosevelt University's Walter E. Heller College of Business
Administration, describes how each person's physical attractiveness plays an
important role in our society, often with unexpected consequences. Published
by Brown Walker Press, the 330-page book offers a scholarly examination of
appearance.

“How Ethnicity Plays a Role in Women’s Heart Health” is the topic of a
lecture that will be held at Rush University Medical Center on Wednesday,
Feb. 7, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Searle Conference Center, Fifth Floor

free conference will outline individual risk factors based on ethnicity.

screening to help women assess their cardiovascular risks. The screening

health risk assessment, and a consultation with a cardiologist or nurse

Nicholas Brown, associate professor of English and African American studies
at the University of Illinois at Chicago, has received a Fulbright Scholar
