By William S. Bike

Only 12 Aldermanic elections are going to the April 17 runoff, and two of them are in this community. In the 2nd and 3rd Wards, voters will return to the polls to elect an Alderman after giving no candidate 50% or more of their votes in the Feb. 27 primary.

In the 2nd Ward, the candidates who made the cut for the runoff were Bob Fioretti, who got 3,073 votes for 27.7%, and incumbent Madeline Haithcock, who got 2,315 for 20.9%. Those who did not make the runoff were David Askew with 1,755 or 15.8%; Kenny Johnson with 1,568 or 14.2%; Larry Doody with 1,283 or 11.6%; and Wallace Davis with 1,088 for 9.8%. Twelve votes, or 0.1%, were cast for write-in candidates. (See related article, page XX.)

The primary included a referendum in the 2nd Ward asking for a City ordinance to require at least two off-street parking spaces for each new residential housing unit constructed in the ward. It passed easily, with 7,477 votes or 76.6% for
and 2,286 votes or 23.4% against.

In the 3rd Ward, incumbent Dorothy J. Tillman led the pack with 3,464

Angelo James got 98 votes for 1.2%, Benjamin Harris got 94 votes for 1.1%, and there were six write-in votes, or 0.1%, cast. (See related article, page XX.)

Alderman Manny Flores had no opponent in the 1st Ward and got 4,621 votes for 97%. The remaining 3% consisted of 145 write-in votes.

In the 4th Ward, Toni Preckwinkle retained her seat with 7,593 votes for 75.7%. She defeated Norman H. Bolden, who had 2,398 votes for 23.9%. Write-ins got 36 votes for 0.3%.

against Carl Segvich, who got 2,030 votes for 21%. Write-ins got 46 votes for 0.5%.

The 25th Ward race saw Alderman Danny Solis win in a crowded field with 3,520 votes for 51.2%. Cuahutemoc Morfin was second with 1,534 for 22.3%. Former Alderman Juan M. Soliz got 625 for 9.1%. Martha Padilla got 549 for 7.9%. Aaron Del Valle tallied 326 for 4.8%. Joe D. Acevedo
