Dominick’s opens “Lifestyle” store in West Town

The new store features a natural and organic food, the first Dominick’s self check-out, free WiFi access, a Starbucks, and an environmentally-friendly Greener Cleaners.

“We are so pleased to continue our quest to provide Chicagoans with a wide range of healthful and helpful grocery shopping options with the opening of this new Lifestyle store in West Town,” said company President Don Keprta. “The store represents a partnership between Dominick’s and the West Town community.”

Dominick’s worked with a variety of organizations, individuals, and schools to develop a community benefits package which includes employment opportunities, support services, and discount programs for seniors, consumer protection standards, and parking.

            First Ward Alderman Manuel Flores said, “I am very excited about Dominick’s serving the West Town community. There’s been a growing demand for grocery services in the neighborhood and Dominick’s will fill that need. In my opinion, this is a model partnership.  Dominick’s reached out to neighborhood businesses, schools, and block clubs and worked with seniors to make sure that it will fulfill its promise of being a model corporate citizen, providing economic development opportunities in terms of store construction and operation, and providing a high degree of service for the West Town community.”

The new 50,000-square-foot facility has an open air parking lot above the structure and an expanded sidewalk for pedestrian traffic. In addition to indoor café seating, the Starbucks has outside bistro-style seating on Chicago Avenue. The Greener Cleaners provides dry cleaning services without the use of toxic chemicals that traditional dry cleaners use.  Instead, the process includes safe, wet-cleaning technology that uses methods and materials that are healthy for customers, workers, and the environment.

As a follow-up to its “O” organic line of natural product selections, the new Dominick’s has added an O for Babies product line. Additionally, the company has introduced its new Eating Right line that provides consumers with important product information prominently on the front label.

As a Lifestyle store, the new Dominick’s features:

Cheese World, which offers an expanded selection of cheeses and a cheese specialist who will conduct weekly demonstrations and assist customers with choices and pairings;

Scratch Bakery, which features a fired-hearth oven that allows customers to actually watch bread bake;
