Welcome to the home page of the Gazette, the award-winning monthly newspaper that serves the Near West/Tri-Taylor, University Village/UIC South Campus, West Loop, South Loop, West Haven, Bridgeport/Armour Square, Bronzeville, Chinatown, West Town, and Heart of Chicago communities of Chicago, IL.

One of the few independent community newspapers left in Chicago, since 1983 the Gazette has defended the interests of neighborhood residents, organizations, and business people against those who would try to exploit them. The Gazette is committed to venerable journalistic principles often missing from today’s corporate-owned media: we tell all sides of the story in our unbiased news coverage, and we endeavor to comfort the afflicted (and often, therefore, afflict the comfortable) in our editorials.

Gazette staff members are veteran professional journalists with experience on a variety of city, suburban, and even national publications. If it’s news from our area, you can be sure the Gazette will cover it in a well-balanced manner.

In addition to concise news and honest editorials, each issue offers “City Beat,” which contains feature articles, including the popular Fine Arts and Meet the Merchants columns, and profiles of people and organizations that make our coverage area one of Chicago’s most vibrant and popular in which to live, work, and enjoy.

The Gazette's slogan is "Ten Great Neighborhoods--One Great Newspaper." Distributed free of charge in more than 600 strategically placed locations, the Gazette has a circulation of 17,500 copies each month.

This year, the Gazette celebrates its 25th anniversary, so look for articles throughout the year focusing on the Ten Great Neighborhoods’ history, economic development, cultural change, and future.

In 25 years, the Gazette has focused on building bridges among communities, keeping people from being taken advantage of, providing a thorough understanding of politics, and giving a voice to community residents and business owners. We will continue to fulfill and expand on this mission throughout our anniversary year and beyond.

We invite you to explore our website, and to contact us for more information.
