Getty Images/Emma McIntyre The label and management firm for the massively successful K-pop group BTS, Big Hit, said on Monday that all seven of the group’s members will be serving in the South Korean military.

According to Big Hit, BTS intends to reform as a unit “around 2025,” once all seven members have finished their terms of duty.

Part of Big Hit’s statement states, “Since the formation of BTS over 10 years ago, the band has climbed to international success, broken records, and launched K-Pop into the global stratosphere.” “BIGHIT MUSIC has concentrated to the landmark time when it would be feasible to respect the demands of the country and for these healthy young men to serve with their countrymen, and that’s now,” the band said.

The oldest member of BTS, Kim Seok-jin, better known as Jin, will reportedly be the group’s first recruit to the military, according to Big Hit. As soon as his solo effort receives an rolled out rating later this month, the 29-year-old expects to join.

Due to persistent threats from North Korea, South Korea’s conscription system mandates that all able-bodied men serve at least 18 months in the armed forces by the age of 28. Certain athletes and performers, particularly those who work in classical and traditional music, are eligible for exemptions.

Due to BTS’s efforts to “improve Korea’s foreign image,” the government granted Jin a two-year deferral in joining the army when he turned 28 in 2020. One of the first K-pop stars to receive such a pardon was him.

The band revealed it was taking a break of an unknown duration in a video in June. The rapper for the group, RM, also known as Kim Nam-joon, declared in the video that it was “physically impossible” for him to mature any longer after ten years of living and working as BTS.
